Mom’s Thanksgiving Hard Sauce
To serve with Mincemeat Pie
This is the traditional sauce for mincemeat pie in our family.
½ cup Butter
1 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Light cream (half and half)
Dash Nutmeg
1 tsp Vanilla
2 to 3 tbsp Light rum
- Simmer the butter, sugar and cream, stirring constantly for 10 -15 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Add the nutmeg and rum, stir to blend and serve warm.
The sauce can be made ahead and kept in the refrigerator. Reheat gently over low to medium heat. Serve with mincemeat pie.
